Samsung declined to extend the warranty period of the unit and their preferred third-party repair service wanted - I kid you not - $2,500 to repair it. you could see the image on the screen but it was as if the brightness was turned down to almost zero - and it's a reminder to me every time I walk past it that I'm taking a bit of a gamble to go there again.īut, damn, I like the R1000 curve and I'm a sucker for "bigger" so I'm pretty sure that - revenues permitting - I'll still be lusting after one even after that experience.Īnd as an aside, if anyone has a repair suggestion for that busted G9, please let me know. I have a G9 sitting sad and lonely in the corner of my living room that worked great for two years or so and then one day stopped illuminating - i.e. This could be because it's basically 2x 1440p vs 1x 4K but hopefully the Neo G9 2023 would at least sit in between the two without significant EOTF curve tracking issues. If you compare the Neo G9 2021 and Neo G8, the G8 has significantly lower sustained/peak brightness at larger window sizes. Whether support for those resolutions can be defined as custom resolutions or if some of them come out of the box is yet unknown as it seems to require some hacks on Neo G9 2021 to add e.g 3440x1440 240 Hz.įor HDR performance I really hope it does better than the Neo G8. On the CRG9, a custom res of 3840x1440 was enough to mitigate FOV distortion well so 6144x2160 would probably be a close equivalent. It would avoid FOV distortion issues with some black bars on the sides which shouldn't be too distracting with local dimming. Running games in uw at 6144x2160 or 5120x2160 would work best, paired with DLSS.

Having the capability for 240 Hz in those situations would be great. My 4090 can do 200+ fps in a lot of games that don't heavily use RT, especially with DLSS in play. While true, think of running e.g 3840x2160 instead. "But you can't even run 7680x2160 at 240 fps!" you say. I really hope they have considered that 4090 owners are probably the most interested in buying this.
#ODYSSEY NEO G9 MANUAL#
Whether Samsung will offer this or gimp HDMI 2.1 to e.g 144 Hz (like on the Neo G9 2021) we don't know until full specs and manual are out. I ran the numbers through LTT's calculator, if it has HDMI 2.1 with full speed 48G ports it should be possible to get 240 Hz 8-bit and 200-220 Hz 10-bit color. I have a RTX 4090 so no DP 2.1 support (damn you Nvidia.), which means what it offers over HDMI 2.1 is key. The Neo G9 2023 would solve that, while also providing the first "4K ultrawide + HDR + high refresh rate" experience on the market. I used the Samsung CRG9 for a few years and loved the form factor and desktop space, but wanted sharper text/UI so went back to 4K 16:9 for the time being. The Neo G9 2021 launched at 2199 euros in my country, so I think 2200-2500, even up to 2999 euros might be possible. In any case spring/summer release might be the earliest.įor pricing I expect at minimum the same as the old Neo G9 2021 at release, potentially higher. I think I heard in some video from CES that it might be coming Q2, but can't remember which one.
